I’ve known Pestodude for the past 3 years with his participation in discussions on Twitter and here. I have no concerns about him astroturfing the site. Lets not jump to conclusions.

Skepticism is good, but cynicism is not helpful. Lets just evaluate it from a science perspective and see what the pros and cons are. The area of cyclodextrins is obviously one of significant scientific merit. But what are the pros and cons of this approach as they stand today, that is the issue…

I didn’t say any names but I didn’t mean Pestodude. I have debated about this Cyclodextrin before on the site and it looked shady to me then. I guess pestodude learned about this from those discussions.

If no one knows about a compound, no one discusses it, nor mentions it on reddit or other sites then it is suspicious it is talked about here. The likelihood anyone knew about it organically is low as how would they learn about it?

Studies have been posted before both pro and con. I found this study of particular interest:

For 200 participants taking α-cyclodextrin compared with 201 participants taking placebo, there was no difference in total cholesterol after 6 months (−1.5 mg/dL; 95% CI, −6.6 to 3.5 mg/dL; P = .51)

I thought cavadex had to be administered rectally?

Yes - but interestingly in the negative study referenced above, it was an oral delivery:

Participants attended monthly visits during the 6-month intervention and were asked to take 12 pills daily (2 capsules before and 2 tablets after breakfast, lunch, and dinner). Each capsule contained either 160 mg of HGE or placebo (maltodextrin), and each tablet contained either 1000 mg of αCD or placebo (microcrystalline cellulose). The placebo pills were indistinguishable from their active counterparts. Participants were provided a 1-month supply of pills at each visit, and leftover pills were returned at subsequent visits to monitor compliance. Participants met with a study dietitian monthly and received personalized advice for prevention of type 2 diabetes, focusing on a healthy, hypocaloric diet, moderate intensity exercise, and behavior management.19

Actually - I do find some references on Reddit. And they aren’t good:

I’m not sure - but this may be the Facebook group that is mentioned - but this seems like a company-sponsored group (and they may be blocking and deleting postings that are negative to their product, so take it with a grain of salt):

I found out about it by googling “products that reduce plaque” which led me to this article: https://www.cnbc.com/2017/11/03/drug-melts-away-heart-fat-in-just-one-dose.html

For the record I am a talent manager (personal manager for actors) and have absolutely no financial interest or affiliation with any other product or any other industry for that matter.

It was long ago I looked into this but it looks like there are some mentions of it. Generally you’d want to see lots of people recommending something and not backed up by a company with almost no mentions. Hearing damage does not sound good.

Cyclodextrin I meant. I believe you either way lol.

Utter corrosive nonsense.

But since you post such great studies,… Right, @RapAdmin ?

Name names, @anuser. Surely you have no qualms about naming names.

On this Len, I agree with you. I’ve seen no excess commercialization of anyone posts here. A few companies / groups have tried to post spam but it quickly gets identified or blocked before its posted.

I’m fine with people who are regular members here having links to their websites in their personal profiles, and fine with people posting occasional links to relevant activities.

I don’t believe that counts as an insult, does it? @AnUser may be somewhat paranoid regarding that, but aggressive marketing and product shilling has been a thing since forever on popular forums such as reddit.

Handwaving misdirection.

Getting off topic guys… please back to cyclodextrins

I used to use HP-β-CD at work for oral dosing of compounds, this was over 15 years ago. The premise at the time was that they weren’t orally absorbed and were just a drug delivery vehicle for otherwise poorly soluble compounds. We used to use quite high concentrations of HP-β-CD, I think it was something like 45%.

I’m part way through my 3rd box, so it’s not that uncomfortable, but it’s a lot of work for me. I usually use it at 8:00 pm and maybe make it through the night half the time. It is uncomfortable, 3 hours isn’t too bad. The vial contains 8 grams and in 30 minutes you absorb 1, they don’t say what happens if you wait longer so maybe nothing more or maybe 6 grams. No information.

I’m kind of sold on it and am trying to give it a fair try. I think it works or I would have quit long ago. Having said that I will probably never know because I did a chelation challenge and discovered I have a problem with lead, so am using an oral chelator (DMSA) and getting rid of it. This seems to really be helping and I had previously tried to see if I had a problem and this is the only way I found out. I do recommend it too. I think heavy metals should be cleared out as they are a huge problem.

I don’t think you get enough with this delivery system to ever have a problem with deafness.

Ok, just for the heck of it I will give some instructions that will actually work. I used to just twist the top off, sometimes you get a shard of plastic and that is obviously bad, so I would use my nail then to blunt it down. Then I noticed they have essentially put blades on the bottom of the plug. Over an embarrassingly long time I figured out that you should push down on the plug and twist the blades around a little then pull it out. It works perfect that way and it was obviously designed that way. No place does it say to do it that way.

You get an “A” for effort, for trying this delivery system. Please let us know if you feel you are getting any side effects, and if you see any measurable and positive results!
