Come on over to Hong Kong for another 4 years on top of that!
The current life expectancy for Hong Kong in 2025 is 85.55 years, a 0.15% increase from 2024. The life expectancy for Hong Kong in 2024 was 85.42 years , a 0.15% increase from 2023.
0.15% increase in lifespan annually. I’ll take it.
If it continues at this rate until I am 90, the average life expectancy of Hong Kong will be 91.

So the last CDC data in 2022 looks like life expectancy at birth for U.S. males is a dismal 74.8 years. This is the worst data I’ve seen.
I’d however not run to move to Canada, as once tariffs are assessed, you’ll be down to 60 years life expectancy.
On a more serious note, the healthcare system is broken badly here. The resources are massive and misused; but the elephant in the room is Americans are different than others in first world. Pretty much every item that deteriorates health by lifestyle, they are doing worse with. Then the lack of universal primary care leads to poor health outcomes.

As I’ve mentioned in other posts I used to be in the med device business in the US for 9 years. Had many interesting discussions on the differences between the US and Cdn health care systems with CEO’s of large hospital chains and nursing home companies and all the way “down” to the maintenance people. One thing that came up fairly often was medical debt induced bankruptcy. And the “fear” of having to go to the hospital and what that was going to cost.
5 years ago I did something stupid and nearly cut the tip of a finger off. Went to our local hospital and sat in the waiting room watching the comings and goings. There were 2 ER entrances, the one on the left was for adults, the one on the right was for children.
As I watched young couples coming in with 1 or 2 or 3 kids in tow, I though back to the financial fear that does not exist here. Young families getting excellent care for their kids so they can grow up more healthy and not have that affect their finances is pretty amazing to me.
I know I pay more taxes than those young couples but I don’t begrudge 1 cent of that.
One time when I was complaining about taxes and “welfare” etc my father who was not a religious person, had been a cop for 20 years, and then a farmer, and seemed to me to be the ultimate hard ass, asked “are we not our brothers keeper”?. That floored me, coming from him.
As I thought back on some of the things he did, hiring ex-cons to give them a second chance, giving food to those in need from our garden, preparing and bringing dinners to wakes, etc. I finally realized that he was setting an example for me, which as a younger person, I did not fully understand until he asked me that question.

Hopefully moving away helps too.
Im originally from a part of the UK (Blackpool) that now has the unenvious pleasure of having the worst mortality stats for men (72yrs mean death), highest deprivation and crime. Went to my 40 yr school reunion and six of my year were dead by drink, drugs and suicide.
Hopefully Ive enough escape velocity……

I am extremely grateful for a number of great Canadians, including Neil Young, Leonard Cohen, Alice Munro, Mavis Gallant, and at least a dozen others. And before DT attacks Canada with the Navy Seals, he should remember that Canada played a key role in the 1979 rescue of American diplomats in Iran, a rescue that was dramatized in the movie “Argo.” Of all the nations in the world, we couldn’t have a better neighbor. Merci, Canada.

Maybe they should look up the Canadian seal hunt
I’d hate to see us burn down the Whitehouse… again J/K!!!
Our mutually beneficial relationship as neighbouring countries, sharing the longest border in the world has a long history of mutual “key roles”.
The vast majority of Canadians had a positive view of the US, that view is changing on an hourly basis and that makes me sad.
We must not let this turmoil harm one of the most productive and respectful relationships between neighbouring countries in the history of the world.
I’ve spent a lot of time in the US and have many great friends south of the border, I’m really disturbed by this extreme aggressive posturing on both sides of the border.
I come from the east coast which has historically strong ties with the New England states over 200 years. Many families over that time have been cross border families, one example are the Loyalists. Due to this strong familial bond we feel towards our NE family when disaster strikes both sides respond.
Look up the history of the Christmas Tree that the province of Nova Scotia sends to Boston every Christmas. It is all about family and gratitude.

As something of a history buff, you may have read or heard about the Irish-American soldiers who attacked Canada in the 1860s, when Canada was still a part of the British Empire. Veterans of the Civil War, the soldiers were an early incarnation of the IRA.
