1mg finasteride as I did not notice any additional regrowth with dutasteride over finasteride.

Damn you all ! I have used finasteride 1 mg daily.
Now you have me question if the life has been a bit lackluster for me.
I mean I don’t feel overtly depressed or anxious, I have zero issues with impotence and libido.
But I don’t brim with enthusiasm like I used to, I just thought it was part of being 51.
Well …Cost Plus has 90 days of dutasteride 0.5 mg for $12.84
Thanks for the NOCEBO effect !
BTW, just for the record - taking rapamycin is a miserable experience- I am exhausted for 36- 48 hours from admin. This thing better have some measurable effect - like improved dental pocket numbers to gauge my perio.

It’s probably easy to forget about and let it slide, then slowly over the years and decades, different mental knots, personal circumstances, cumulative damage, start decreasing amount of positive valence (e.g happiness, joy, calm, peace), and increasing negative valence (e.g anger, sadness, depression, anxiety) that someone has on a day to day, weekly, yearly, basis.
I think personal circumstances matter a lot (what someone does and experience on a day to day basis, on average), also in the body and brain (e.g maybe inflammation and such, brain/mental patterns or habits), and of course other things.

Dr. Bart … take a breath… lol.
I’ve been on 5mg daily finasteride for about 33 years. No depression… pretty euphoric ( rapamycin probably helps there too)… got a small prostate… nice… got my hair… getting a trim in a few minutes… and no plaque or calcium… recently reported that finasteride keeps cholesterol cleared in blood.
I am staying the course on finasteride.
And yeah… I get you on rapamycin fatique… take my dose at night… feel out of sorts the next day til noon at least. Like I have been given a mickey finn.

My father gets Rapamycin fatigue as well for about 24-48 hours after dosing. It’s a thing.
The finasteride effect for me builds over 3 days of continual dosing. I can logically look at my life and say that I should be happy, but I feel like everything is sh!t. And my testicles ache continuously. So, I don’t take finasteride anymore. Dutasteride doesn’t have those side effects.

Having side effects on finasteride is not the same as PFS lol. Side effects usually resolve within 3 months of cessation while the supposed PFS condition allegedly gives people side effects for many months or years until they are miraculously solved by snake oil products.

Good to know. Thank you. I couldn’t imagine having those side effects last for months or longer!!!

Any studies on Dutasteride 0.5 mg helping hair loss at every other dosing ?
It seems like 0.5 mg daily is an approved dose for BPH, it may be overkill for hair loss.
Thanks

A new article in the Wall Street Journal on Finasteride. When I tried finasteride my libido went through the floor. Just something to be aware, and just part of the ongoing discussion on this topic for people to consider and watch for… I’ve found minoxidil 5mg tablets to be side effect free.
“Soon after taking the medicine, Millich said he felt strange symptoms. He woke up one day anxious, dizzy and slurring his words. Later his libido plunged, and his genitals shrank and changed shape.”
Dr. Justin Houman, a urologist at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, said he has seen a steady increase of young men, one or two a week, seeking treatment for finasteride’s sexual side effects. Some also experience panic attacks and suicidal thoughts, he said.
The side effects are “very very common” these days because the medicine is easier to get from telehealth companies, Houman said. He said the cosmetic benefits of finasteride are almost never worth the risks. “This is not something young men should take,” he said.

This surprises me. What dose are you currently taking? It’s been my opinion that younger people (yes, you are quite young compared to me) in this forum are probably taking too high of a dose.
I have been taking relatively high doses for almost four years and have never felt that effect. Yes, the next day I feel a little less energetic, but nothing significant. When I overdose, I get diarrhea. Taking high doses has little or no effect on my sleep.

When I took it in my 40s, I was expecting my libido to drop. But after few weeks of mentally undressing women around me, I realized something was off
. It doesn’t affect me in the same way anymore.

It’s very unlikely anyone will have those side effects from finasteride as it wasn’t reported in their clinical trial.

I read the article of course, and finasteride has been studied for 7 yrs for prostate cancer prevention in 18,000 men (9000 placebo, 9000 finasteride 5 mg). The ones on finasteride in that study who had loss of libido had a 8.9% chance it was from it.

8.9% is almost 1 in 10 people, which feels like quite a lot to me. Seems like people should be made well aware when starting the drug to discontinue if they experience loss of libido, no?

1 in 10 people who have loss of libido, not 1 in 10 people who are on the drug.
So if you get loss of libidio it’s 91.1% chance it’s not finasteride.

For Propecia 1 mg study:
Correct me if I’m wrong 1.9-1.3 = 0.6
0.6/1.9 = 31% chance it’s due to finasteride if libido decreases.

In other words 0.6 percent over placebo that developed reduced libido and 0.5% ED on finasteride
Assuming this difference is actually statistically significant.
