@Beth I definitely recognise your post about being small framed. Anything worn around my wrists or ankles (ankle weights etc) needs to be manufactured for children, or it will certainly not fit.
Either way, just recently I bought a weighted vest, since I hope to avoid issues by the time I’ll reach a more advanced age. (Not too easy to find a weighted vest with such a small fit, but alas). I use it during walks, at moments also indoors if I’m preparing meals etc. Perhaps something to give a try?

Thanks for those ideas Pat!

I do have one (the simple one from rucksack which is pretty small, but wouldn’t choose this one again) and I use it on occasion but I also HATE wearing it. But I also don’t use backpacks because I’m a big baby and just hate things on my shoulders :). I’ve single handedly brought back fanny packs

This week my magical PT told me to get a slam ball for home. He is having me slam it as hard as I can against the ground, like dribbling a basketball, and when I catch it, he said that is when it will give you impact and help all your bones, including hip.

The reason he suggested it is because I have chondromalacia and jumping is fine most of the time, unless of course my form isn’t perfect when I land and therefore feels like someone is driving a nail into my kneecap

And I get you on your kids sizes !
You should see me trying to buy a pair of glasses… it’s not which ones to I like but it’s ‘hello, do you have anything that will fit me in this store!!!’
Fortunately I’m in proportion so no one knows how minuscule I am until they have me try on their glasses

I do need to use the backpack more so I’m glad you put a bug in my ear, thank you!

Look what came from Amazon today.

One packet for me… and one packet as a Christmas gift for my 85-year old Office Administrator. She saw my DEXA scan improvement and said…I want that for my Christmas gift :gift:… Ho ho ho!

What a great idea. Thanks for sharing! It sounds effective, but also like a fun and relatively easy thing to incorporate into a lifestyle. More variety makes it easier to keep up with things - and this sounds like a great suggestion. I would love to hear how that works out for you.

Haha, I so recognise this. I’m happy if I manage to find an item that fits, without a pink cat or unicorn on it. I don’t want to go off-topic too much, but you may want to look into some specific French or Italian brands. I can often find a size XXS there, that is a size XXXS where I live - and thus unavailable.

What a thoughtful gift and gesture to give to your office administrator. She must be so happily surprised.

I used consensus dot app AI to quickly see if there is a scientific consensus in this. It looks like the consensus is that co-ingesting creatine and coffee has no impact on the efficacy of creatine. It is important to note that even the one negative study only found acute performance impact. I take creatine for performance and its many other benefits such as muscle strength, lean muscle size, injury prevention, cognition, sarcopenia prevention and more. I don’t think I will stop combining it with my morning coffee because the consensus does not justify it. The main reason however is that I have been experiencing creatine’s benefits despite taking it with my coffee for over a year. Others may conclude differently.

I never heard of a Slam Ball. How does it help your legs/hips if you’re using hands to catch? Also, there seems to be different weight balls, which do you use? I’d like to get one as a gift for my wife. Hope it is effective because she’s a retired physical therapist and I wouldn’t want her to slam me in the head with it if it didn’t work.

Wow. Thanks for sharing. I have been taking Taurine for appx 25 years. My microbiologist recommended it to me as an evening supplement - deeper sleep. Also it helps to keep magnesium & potassium in the heart. FYI - Been taking Rapa on & off for 4 years (7mg weekly). Working towards regrowing jaw bone.

I think you meant to ask me, so I’ll chime in!

I texted him this morning on my ordering options to make sure I’m getting the right one, so I’ll come back here and share the link when he gets back to me.

Some versions land like a sack of potatoes, and some have a little bounce, so I’m waiting for his advice to make sure I order the correct version. (He had both in his office)

On Monday I was using his 16lb ball which worked really well, but yesterday I discovered I can handle the 20lb ball just fine, so that is what I’m going with, once I know which one to buy that actually bounces! TBA

It sounds odd, but once you catch this heavy thing, you can feel how your legs have to brace when you grab it. Only after he pointed it out, could I feel how it would give my legs/hips a jarring feeling when grabbing it to keep it from falling back to the floor. Did that make sense? Just picture someone throwing you a car and how more than just your arms would work when you try to catch it

I’m not strong, although a million times stronger than I was a year ago, and those are the weights that work for me. Incase this helps you judge my strength compared to your wife’s…. I can deadlift the bar with some tiny weeny weights on it (i don’t know what he puts on there but they are SMALL, size of your hand and extended fingers). If I’m leaning over and rowing a kettlebell to work my tricep/lats, I can handle the 20lb weight but can not lift the 30lb weight all the way up.

And ha on her slamming you in the head!!!

Wow… appreciate the extra bits you provided and your DEXA T-Score?

Assuming taurine keeps your bone density in a good range.

BTW - You are an early rapamycin.news adopter…2021. Nice!!

Just stop all this nonsense, hop on teriparatide for a year, and call it a day.

Yeah… gonna stick with over the counter supplements -Taurine…K2, D3, Creatine and Calcium for now.

Will be curious to see results in 2 years… my next insurance covered DEXA.

I’m back!

I found out what we want is not called a slam ball! A slam ball would also be good, but I like the extra impact from catching it after the bounce, and it’s more fun! Slam balls are the ones that land like a sack of potatoes. What I preferred is called a bouncing medicine ball! They look the same but one has a little bounce

I searched amazon and took a screen shot of a few for you to consider if you would prefer not to do any work!! I’m ordering the JFIT in silver only so it will look better in the house!

They vary in price depending on the weight.

If you happen to be interested in the Fitvids, which is by far the best price, just know 18lb is the highest weight they offer in ones that bounce. Also, their page is a little confusing so it would be easy to order the wrong one. When you scroll to choose your weight, just know you can select a Wall Ball, a Slam Ball, OR a Medicine Ball. I’m I read it correctly, only their medicine ball has bounce.

I’ll come and report back if what I receive is not what I am trying to buy! Hope that helps.

I am on the Inspire forum for osteoporosis and many there taking strontium citrate (away from calcium) at night - I have it but have not taken it as just unsure about it. However there have been some who have also reversed their scores to normal. Many also taking bioidentical hormones and also working on underlying conditions such as thyroid/parathyroid. I have a fasting bone metabolic study done every year - am 63 - and very small frame 5ft 1. So far my study shows I am not losing bone- its a useful blood test to have.

terrible side effects though for some.

Interesting. It appears that strontium ranelate is used as a prescription medicine in Australia, but only for postmenopausal women and men with severe osteoperosis.

Seems highly likely the citrate form would work as well.

Apparently the supplement unlike the drug is safer. In any event maybe read all the links on the info in Inspire

I know a dozen people who used it. Other than some lethargy after injection in the first week I am not aware of any side effects anyone had.
Furthermore, it WORKS. And the risks and side effects of osteoporosis/fracture are much greater than the risks and side effects of teriparatide.
All the supplements barely do anything. If it were my health, I would not waste time with that nonsense.
Bioidentical HRT is another option but less powerful than teriparatide. IMO, (almost) every women should be on HRT
