What about Donepezil? or Nicotine or Huperzine A … all wildly available?

Yep, they are available as supplements.

It is a mere leap of faith on my part to suspect that the Indian generic of the prescription galantamine would be a better product than the supplement.

I needed to place an order for some other goods anyway…

Madhacker, did you finish your experiment with metformin and Galantamine? If so, were there any results you can mention?

My father has been taking Metformin (1 g) and Galantamine (4 mg) daily for a few months now. This is what he has to report.

  1. Improved sleep. He does not need to wake up as many times to urinate during the night.
  2. Improved dreams. He said it’s like going from watching black and white TV to full color.

Based on these results, he is going to try 8 mg a night. He was taking Galantamine in the morning, but is now going to switch to evening. He is super happy about both of these positive effects and they are enough for him to continue taking Galantamine for the foreseeable future.

Unfortunately, he has felt no effects on his muscles although that does not mean there is no benefit.

I will start taking Galantamine in the summer.

Does your father exercise regularly? I think the drug combination is primarily designed to stop loss of muscle, but it would be interesting to find out if it also helped build muscle (but obviously you need to be exercising the muscle to build it).

He exercises regularly and takes protein powder and creatine. However he also takes an SGLT2I, Rapamycin, and several other longevity drugs. I’ll have to ask him how his muscles are doing. From my perspective, it seems to be status quo which isn’t bad for a 78 yo.

I thought this chart was interesting. Metformin (blue) and Galantamine (yellow) Both - (purple) really reduce systemic inflammation. Control is Black.

Thank you for sharing this. I take my metformin & galantamine combo religiously as part of my daily stack. Add additional choline supplement, usually from Antarctic krill oil soft gels.

I got my Galantamine yesterday and used it last night. My mind seemed very alert this morning as if a brain fog that I wasn’t aware of was lifted. Also felt a bit more energetic. I am taking additional choline and inositol to assist.

Unfortunately my dreams were still the same. We’ll see how things go.

I’ve been experimenting a bit with 4mg galantamine before strength workouts or downhill skiing. I find it very similar to dosing with nicotine gum, for which I use it for the same purpose. The purpose being to have a better concentration. I might even use it (nicotine gum) before hosting a social event to be on my game. My use is very low dose, episodal and not habitual. But I would think for sleep it might have a lot of different impact depending on the age and condition of the subject.

The similarity of galantamine to nicotine according to Gemini Ai " Galantamine does not work exactly like nicotine, but it shares a similar mechanism of action by interacting with nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) in the brain, acting as a positive allosteric modulator, meaning it enhances the effects of acetylcholine at these receptors, which is why it might show some similar effects to nicotine."

It seems nicotine pouches are all the rage but I find very low dose (1mg nicotine gum) very stimulating. And I think the habitual use of nicotine (gum or pouch) can have a negative impact on the cardio vascular system. I am curious if habitual users would find galantamine a suitable substitute for nicotine. But I haven’t seen anything on this other some research articles looking at galatamine use to quit smoking.
