I see! Yesh, working out probably helps you shortening that cortisol tail you’ve been dragging after you for some time! Well done!

Don’t you get tired from that amount in the morning?

My original plan was to consume 5 g AAKG, 5 g Taurine and 10 gr Glycine spread out in three doses over the day. But both I and my wife felt a kind of spaced out and tired from mixing them in that way. A bit like being on weed without the euphoria, if it makes sense?

Taurine activates the Gabaergic system, Glycine increases extracellular serotonin, and the arginine in the AAKG lowers blood pressure by dilating the blood vessels, so not strange if some potentiating interaction comes to play when combined. But I’ve also find that Glycine and taurine by them self have anxiolytic properties to an extent that makes me overly lazy.

It’s known that Gabaergic substances may have downstream effects on other substances like dopamine and serotonin.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there is big individual differnences in how we react to taurin at diffent doses, but in my personal experimentation I’ve found smaller amount to be better for sleep, especially when combined with glycine. My preferred ratio is 2,5-5 times more glycine. Eg. 1,5 gram taurine and 5 grams of Glycine.

I am really lazy with supplements and afternoon/evening routine. I have my morning routine checked and that is the main purpose I do do it in the morning. I would forget during the day/evening. My schedule is really strange, I wake up, have my lazy morning, supplements, work out routine, walk the dogs, maybe some errands, late breakfast when people start thinking about lunch and then I go to work and work in the afternoon. If there is any tiredness from taurine by the time I get to my work it is hours later and probably gone. If I take it too close to bedtime I keep waking up during the night.

This is in line with my deep sleep data using the Oura ring. Previously, if I took Glycine too close to bedtime, it would have a negative impact on my sleep.
The last two months I have been taking 5g of Glycine at 4 or 5PM and 1g of Taurine 30 min before bedtime and my deep sleep score has improved from 51 min on average to 1 hour 32 min.

That’s an impressive improvement! Do you also feel more refreshed, or that you recover better from exercise?

I do wake up feeling fresh, even on weekends where I tend to drink too much wine.

I don’t drink to often now a days, but also think that the combo helps with hangovers. I usually also add NAC, magnesium and homemade fluid replacement in my anti-hangover remedy.

Will try taking the glycine a bit earlier, and should also start taking better notes!

Don’t know if this theme deserves a new thread? (Feels like I’m hijacking this one)

But yesterday, for the first time in a long while had a few grams of glycine during the day, since I’m out of collagen.

15 minutes before sleep took 1,5 gr Taurine. And then immediately fell a sleep.

Only have sleep data for the last weeks, but crashed my old deep sleep record of 57 minutes and reached a whooping 70 minutes record. Also had an elevated mean HRV and what might hade been an all time high.

Recently started Zone 2 training and, also have done some stretching the last two nights, so there definitely are some confounders…

Great! Maybe I should give a low dose taurine another try.
Btw do you have arterial fibrillation function turned on?

Thank’s!

I encourage you play with the amounts and timing, that would make our not so scientific study a n3  Maybe throw in some Glycine during some days for good measure?

Yes AFIB is turned on. :+1:t3:

I take collagen every morning, this counts as glycine, doesn’t it?

I will try with some experiments. i am on vacation for another three weeks and even if I loose a night or two i can make it up during the day in hammock.

Yeah, I would say that it counts, even if I think the effect of glycine taken in isolation on an empty stomach probably has a slightly different effect. I usually takes one of the two. You can be in the collagen-arm of the study when your vacation is over! If you wanna stick with pjef_pjef’s advice you may try to take the collagen later in the afternoon… not really sure about the time frame of the synthesis of glycine > serotonin > melatonin. Will probably research it when I find some time.

I would be interested in an update on the vagus nerve stimulation device. Did you get any measurable results?

Many thanks!

Gave it to my nephew who’s 19 and had some anxiety issues (rough start in college). He said it helped him big time with his anxiety and sleep.

I’m just wondering if this change could also be attributed to the new Oura sleep algorithm. The reason I’m wondering about this is that I’ve noticed a big jump in my deep sleep score. Conversely My REM has actually decreased

My REM sleep has remained + 2H, so I don´t believe its the algorithm

Which apps are these?

This is apple health app.

My hrv is lower the next day after taking rapamycin. My heart rate is up about 4 from 50 to 54 ish. HRV is much lower the day after, recovers on day 2 after.

Since starting Rapamycin, my heart rate has decreased and my HRV has increased. I wear an Oura ring to track my fitness and sleep. About 10 months ago, I began experiencing aches and pains in my body. My HRV also decreased, and my heart rate increased. I started taking Rapamycin (2mg) in Jan 2024. In Feb, my doctor increased it to 4mg and then to 6mg in March, up to the present. I feel less pain in my right thigh, so I have started jogging again. I continue to lift weights as usual. Because I use my ring to track my athletic performance, it notified me today that it has detected a trend: my heart rate has decreased and returned to baseline. This is the baseline from when I first started wearing my ring in Jan 2021.

As you can see, the trend timeline spans from February 8 to April 3, which is when I started taking Rapamycin, of 4 mg and currently at 6 mg.
