Here’s a good paper for our next topic

https://www.cell.com/cell/fulltext/S0092-8674(24)00463-X

“ Mitochondria reside at the crossroads of catabolic and anabolic metabolism—the essence of life. How their structure and function are dynamically tuned in response to tissue-specific needs for energy, growth repair, and renewal is being increasingly understood. Mitochondria respond to intrinsic and extrinsic stresses and can alter cell and organismal function by inducing metabolic signaling within cells and to distal cells and tissues. Here, we review how the centrality of mitochondrial functions manifests in health and a broad spectrum of diseases and aging.”

@John_Hemming What ever became of this program? Are we looking for a mitochondria expert?

I’d love to gain a better understanding of:

  • how does falling mitochondrial function in aging show up in declining health and function
  • how can we prop up our mitochondria: exercise, sleep, sunshine/NIR light, autophagy (Rapa, Urolithin A), etc.
  • how is mitochondria dysfunction related to the many other drivers of illness and health: iron overload, mTOR, NO, vit D, gut health, senescence burden, metabolic dysfunction, etc.

Living in the wilderness of London Ontario, not too many people I can talk with in person. Would be fun though

With regard to mitochondrial function, August 1, I’ll be starting a MOTS-c experiment. Supposed to be one of the better peptides for mito health.

I grew up in Plantation Florida. I lived in Pembroke Pines and coconut grove for 10 years after college. I miss it.

Fun… I have spent a lot of time in Hamilton visiting with the osteopathic school, the Canadian Academy of Osteopathy CAO, under the direction of Rob Johnston.

Sorry I’d never seen you when I was there.
I will probably be back in the fall, but you will be long gone.
